31.08.2026 Adult and juvenile Sandwich Terns at Petit Port this morning. MD A day of strong and gusty west-northwest winds, with the odd heavy shower for good measure. Some lively passage past Corbiere in the gusty conditions, included 229 Balearic Shearwaters , 31 Manx Shearwaters , 136 Gannets , 26 Sandwich Terns , 163 Lesser Black-backed Gulls , 35 Great Black-backed Gulls , 250 Herring Gulls, mainly juveniles, 80 Mediterranean Gulls , 21 Shags and 3 Cormorants . In Petit Port Bay were 63 Mediterranean Gulls , 16 Black-headed Gulls , 29 Sandwich Terns , 27 Great Black-backed Gulls , 27 Curlews , a Little Egret and a juvenile Grey Heron . On St Ouen's Pond were 2 Little Grebes , a Tufted Duck, a Green Sandpiper , a Common Sandpiper , 15+ Swallows , 10 House Martins and 10 Sand Martins . The Scrape now has a good amount of water on it, so just waiting for the birds now! Seen there this morning were a Common Sandpiper , a Wheatear and a White Wagtail , also 3 Clouded Yellow butterflies. In St Ouen's Bay this afternoon were 3 Yellow-legged Gulls , 65 Lesser Black-backed Gulls , 50 Great Black-backed Gulls , 108 Sandwich Terns a Common Sandpiper, 20 roosting Ringed Plovers and 60+ Starlings . At Noirmont were 5 Whinchats , 4 Wheatears and 2 Stonechats . At La Rocque were 280 Sandwich Terns , 40 Black-headed Gulls , 12 Turnstones , 8 Little Egrets , 2 White Wagtails and a Wheatear . 30.08.2026 Gulls with colour rings on are proliferating on the Island at the moment. This Mediterranean Gull was a new bird for us, preening at Petit Port after a long flight from Hungary! MD A cloudy morning was followed by a front carrying heavy rain this afternoon, which cleared through quickly. Winds were from the Southwest. In Grouville Bay, late morning, were 6 Whimbrels , 60 Ringed Plovers , 12 Turnstones , 17 Sanderlings , 7 Dunlin and 120 Sandwich Terns , while at La Rocque were 12 Little Egrets , 45 Black-headed Gulls , 79 Sandwich Terns and 4 Turnstones . At La Sente were 22 Grey Herons , 32 Black-headed Gulls , 3 Mediterranean Gulls, 5 Great Black-backed Gulls , 3 Lesser Black-backed Gulls , a White Wagtail and 2 Ravens . On Grands Vaux reservoir were 3 Green Sandpipers, 8 Common Sandpipers , a Kingfisher , a Grey Heron and 2 Bullfinches and at Sorel were 15 Swallows , 2 Stonechats , a Willow Warbler , 4 Buzzards , 2 Ravens and 26 Choughs . A Wheatear was seen on a roof near to Pontac Little was moving overhead at Noirmont this morning, with just 2 Yellow Wagtails and 9 Swallows seen, also a Wheatear on the ground, but offshore were 82 Balearic Shearwaters , 8 Manx Shearwaters , 116 Gannets , 68 Lesser Black-backed Gulls , 15 Great Black-backed Gulls, 150 Herring Gulls , 3 Mediterranean Gulls and 2 Grey Herons , with a Peregrine , 6 Ravens and 2 Buzzards on the headland. On St Ouen's Pond were 4 Teal 8 Shovelers , 7 Tufted Ducks , 22 Black-headed Gulls , 30 Swallows , 5 Sand Martins and 3 House Martins and in St Ouen's Bay this afternoon were 3 juvenile Caspian Gulls , 60 Sandwich Terns and a Common Sandpiper . In Petit Port Bay on the falling tide were 91 Mediterranean Gulls , 36 Black-headed Gulls and 2 Common Sandpipers. Yesterday afternoon, a flock of 11 Ravens was at Sorel. 29.08.2026 Adult and juvenile Firecrests being ringed today. Many thanks to David Buxton for the images. A morning of much needed rain, becoming drier this afternoon in a strong and gusty westerly wind. Seabirds passing Noirmont this morning in the pouring rain, included 81 Balearic Shearwaters , 40 Manx Shearwaters , a Guillemot , a Fulmar , 77 Gannets , 43 Sandwich Terns , 95 Lesser Black-backed Gulls , 23 Great Black-backed Gulls and 6 Mediterranean Gulls, with a Grey Seal close in below the headland. Just 3 Swallows headed off and a Chiffchaff was singing strongly there. On St Ouen's Pond was another Black Tern , 21 Black-headed Gulls , 3 Teal , a Shoveler , 7 Tufted Ducks , a Yellow Wagtail , 50 Swallows , 10 Sand Martins and 3 House Martins . At Petit Port were 60 Mediterranean Gulls, 10 Great Black-backed Gulls , 7 Lesser Black-backed Gulls , 6 Sandwich Terns , one Common Tern , 4 Turnstones and 5 Curlews . 20 Curlews and 15 Little Egrets were at Le Pulec. In a very windy St Ouen's Bay this afternoon were 9 Caspian Gulls , 6 Yellow-legged Gulls , 275 Lesser Black-backed Gulls , 68 Great Black-backed Gulls , a Common Gull, 44 Mediterranean Gulls , 15 Dunlin , a Sanderling and 2 Ringed Plovers . At La Sente this morning were 12 Grey Herons , 75 Mediterranean Gulls , 124 Black-headed Gulls , 17 Great Black-backed Gulls and 31 Herring Gulls . On Grands Vaux reservooir were 2 Teal , 2 Green Sandpipers and 5 Common Sandpipers , and in Vallee des Vaux were 8 Firecrests including a juvenile bird, a Goldcrest , 5 Chiffchaffs , a Willow Warbler and 2 Blackcaps . Evening update : On a day full of gulls , in the backfields of St Ouen's Pond this evening were 6 Caspian Gulls, 3 Y ellow-legged Gulls , 377 Lesser Black-backed Gulls , 254 Great Black-backed Gulls , and a Common Gull and at Petit Port were 13 Caspian Gulls , 4 Yellow-legged Gulls , 380 Herring Gulls, 123 Lesser Black-backed Gulls and 22 Great Black-backed Gulls , a record count of Caspian Gulls (19) for the Island between these two sites.In Grouville Bay were 110 Sandwich Terns and a Wheatear .

28.08.2026 Peregrine passing Noirmont MD A fair to cloudy day in an increasing northwesterly wind. A quieter day at Noirmont saw 15 Swifts , 268 Swallows , 109 Sand Martins , 3 House Martins , 14 Yellow Wagtails , 3 Wheatears , 2 Whinchats , a Redstart , 4 Stonechats , 5 Whitethroats , 3 Willow Warblers , 6 Dartford Warblers , a Blackcap , a Peregrine , 2 Kestrels , a Marsh Harrier , 4 Buzzards , 2 Ravens and 3 Linnets . Good numbers of birds feeding near Tuna today included 200+ Sandwich Terns , 102 Gannets , a Manx Shearwater , 6 Mediterranean Gulls , 28 Black-headed Gulls , 11 Lesser Black-backed Gulls , several hundred Herring Gulls and a Fulmar . A Spotted Flycatcher was in a garden on Mont les Vaux and a Swift flew over St John.. On St Ouen's Pond Scrape were 2 Common Sandpipers , a Green Sandpiper and 2 Whinchats and on Mont Matthieu were 18 Choughs . 73 Swallows were sitting on wires in Rue de Petit Aleval. In Le Braye sandpits were 15 Little Grebes , a Great Crested Grebe , 82 Tufted Ducks , 4 Pochard , 2 Teal , a male Gadwall , 7 Common Sandpipers , 340 Coot , 6 Grey Herons , 14 White Wagtails, a Wheatear , 2 Ravens and 2 Marsh Harriers . At Ouaisne were 2 Willow Warblers and a juvenile Marsh Harrier and at Grands Vaux reservoir were 3 Green Sandpipers , 4 Common Sandpipers and a Kingfisher . 3 Common Sandpipers were in Robin Bay at La Rocque. Evening update : In St Ouen's Bay this evening were 8 Caspian Gulls , 6 Yellow-legged Gulls , 800 Lesser Black-backed Gulls , 300 Great Black-backed Gulls, 4 Common Gulls, 10 Mediterranean Gulls, 4 Sandwich Terns, 5 Common Sandpipers , 4 Black-tailed Godwits flying over, and a Wheatear .

A good mix of species seen from Noirmont this morning, included 2 Great White Egrets flying west together, a Wryneck , 9 Whinchats , 5 Wheatears , 4 Redstarts , 6 Willow Warblers , 6 Whitethroats , 3 Dartford Warblers , a Great Spotted Woodpecker , 2 Blackcaps and a Stonechat . Visible migration overhead included 209 Swallows , 181 Sand Martins , 11 House Martins , 3 Yellow Wagtails , as well as a Peregrine , a Sparrowhawk , 4 Buzzards , a Marsh Harrier and 2 Ravens . Offshore were several Tuna boils attracting the attention of 100+ Sandwich Terns , 20 Mediterranean Gulls , 5 Black - headed Gulls, 19 Lesser Black-backed Gulls , 11 Gannets , a Manx Shearwater and a skua sp , probably an Arctic Skua . On Beauport Common were 2 Wheatears , 2 Whinchats , 2 Stonechats , a Whitethroat and 2 Buzzards . On St Ouen's Pond were a Common Sandpiper , a Ruff and a Redshank , with 5 Wheatears and a Yellow Wagtail on the north side of the Pond. The Scrape was still dry today, despite the heavy rain, the only birds there, being a family of 4 Stonechats , 3 White Wagtails and 3 Wheatears . In the Sandpits were 7 Common Sandpipers , 10 Little Grebes , 378 Coot and 4 White Wagtails . 2 Stonechats were near to the Gap Hide. Off St Ouen's Bay were 3 Black Terns, and in St Ouen's Bay this afternoon were 4 juvenile Caspian Gulls , 11 Yellow-legged Gulls , 480 Lesser Black-backed Gulls , 110 Great Black-backed Gulls , 120 Herring Gulls , 120 Mediterranean Gulls , 45 Black-headed Gulls and 2 Common Gulls . At Petit Port were 131 Mediterranean Gulls , 29 Lesser Black-backed Gulls , 2 juvenile Caspian Gulls , a Yellow-legged Gull , a Common Sandpiper , 10 Curlews , 15 Ringed Plovers and 10 Sandwich Terns . At Grouville Marsh from first light this morning were 16 Cattle Egrets, 2 Yellow Wagtails , 15 Reed Warblers , 8 Willow Warblers , 30 Blackcaps , 15 Chiffchaffs , a Bullfinch , 2 Great Spotted Woodpeckers and a Water Rail . At Grands Vaux reservoir were 6 Common Sandpipers , a Green Sandpiper , 2 Teal , a Grey Heron , a Marsh Harrier and 2 Kingfishers . On Grouville Common were a singing Cetti's Warbler , 10 House Martins and a Peregrine hassling 30 Starlings . An Arctic Skua was seen chasing Sandwich Terns off Les Ecrehous. Yesterday evening , along the northwest coast were 14 Fulmars , a Marsh Harrier , a Peregrine , 4 Ravens , 2 Choughs , a Wheatear and a Dartford Warbler .

This morning's tallies from St Ouen's Pond included a Barn Owl , 900 Swallows , 15 Sand Martins , 20 House Martins , 16 Yellow Wagtails, a Hobby , a Peregrine , 9 Wheatears , 18 Sedge Warblers , 25 Reed Warblers , 15 Willow Warblers , 3 Blackcaps , 6 Chiffchaffs , 3 Teal , a Shoveler , 2 Greenshanks , a Redshank , a Green Sandpiper , 2 Common Sandpipers , a Dunlin , 40 Goldfinches , 17 Grey Herons , a Sparrowhawk , 4 Marsh Harriers , 3 of them juveniles. At the Scrape were a Stonechat , a Willow Warbler , 2 Linnets , a Common Sandpiper and a Marsh Harrier . In the Sandpits were 2 Barnacle Geese , a Great Crested Grebe , 9 Little Grebes , 3 Common Sandpipers , 2 Grey Herons , 33 Tufted Ducks , 14 Linnets , 4 White Wagtails , hundreds of Coots , 6 Great Black-backed Gulls and a Lesser Black-backed Gull . On Mont Matthieu were a Barn Owl , 3 Shovelers and a Willow Warbler , with another Barn Owl seen at St John's Manor. Also in St Ouen's Bay were 5 Caspian Gulls , 9 Yellow-legged Gulls , 260 Lesser Black-backed Gulls , 105 Great Black-backed Gulls and 45 Mediterranean Gulls , while at Petit Port were 10 Caspian Gulls , 4 Yellow-legged Gulls, 18 Lesser Black-backed Gulls , 56 Herring Gulls , 47 Mediterranean Gulls , 2 Common Sandpipers and 34 Curlews . Many of yesterday's migrants at Noirmont had departed by this morning. Counts included 3 Wheatears , 2 Whinchats , 3 Redstarts , a Spotted Flycatcher , 3 Stonechats , 2 Willow Warblers , 4 Whitethroats , 4 Dartford Warblers , 2 Tree Pipits , 4 Yellow Wagtails , 37 Swallows , 21 House Martins , a male Marsh Harrier , a Peregrine and 2 Ravens . A flock of 70 Herring Gulls which landed in the car park at first light included a Caspian Gull and a Yellow-legged Gull, while offshore were 11 Sandwich Terns, 4 Mediterranean Gulls, 10 Lesser Black-backed Gulls and 5 Gannets . At Grands Vaux reservoir were 2 Common Sandpipers , a Green Sandpiper , 2 Kingfishers , a Grey Heron and 12 Long-tailed Tits . A Wheatear was seen at La Rocque. On Beauport Common were a Wheatear , a Whitethroat , 2 juvenile Stonechats and a Great Spotted Woodpecker and over Red Houses this afternoon were a Swift , a Sparrowhawk and 2 House Martins . Back to yesterday , and a visit to Les Ecrehous saw a Whimbrel , 34 Ringed Plovers , 50 Turnstones , a Dunlin , 5 Common Sandpipers , a Willow Warbler , a Peregrine with a juvenile Common Tern, also 2 Grey Seals . Yesterday evening, at St Ouen's Pond, were 900 Swallows , 15 Sand Martins , 16 Yellow Wagtails , a Snipe , 4 Common Sandpipers and 4 Marsh Harriers .

A warm and muggy day ( 25c) in a light easterly wind, with nearby showers mainly avoiding the Island. More migrants are appearing on a daily basis at the moment. At St Ouen's Pond from Dawn this morning, were 2 Grasshopper Warblers , 8 Sedge Warblers , 15 Reed Warblers , 5 Chiffchaffs , 2 Blackcaps , a Whitethroat , 2 Stonechats , 15 Sand Martins , 90 Swallows , 15 Yellow Wagtails out of a roost, 45 Goldfinches , 20 Linnets , 40 Starlings , a Great Spotted Woodpecker, 4 Grey Herons , 3 Teal , 11 Tufted Ducks , 11 Wheatears , 3 Marsh Harriers , a Sparrowhawk , 3 Buzzards and 20 House Martins . Flying over were a Wood Sandpiper , a Green Sandpiper , 2 Common Sandpipers , a Redshank , a Greenshank , 2 Ringed Plovers , a Snipe and 3 Choughs . On Mont Matthieu were 5 Whinchats and 2 Willow Warblers . At Noirmont were 11 Wheatears , 6 Whinchats , 5 Redstarts , 3 Spotted Flycatchers , 15 Whitethroats , 2 Willow Warblers , 3 Dartford Warblers , a Stonechat , a Chiffchaff , a Blackcap , and a Great Spotted Woodpecker . Flying over were a Greenshank , a Ringed Plover , a Peregrine , 6 White Wagtails , 10 Yellow Wagtails , 9 Grey Herons , 4 Cormorants , 33 Swallows , 14 Sand Martins and 20 House Martins . Passing offshore were 8 Gannets , 3 Sandwich Terns , 2 Mediterranean Gulls, 7 Lesser Black-backed Gulls and a Black-headed Gull . Elsewhere, a Hobby was seen in Trinity, 2 Wheatears , 4 Stonechats , a Whinchat , a Redstart and a Whitethroat were at Beauport and 3 Spotted Flycatchers were at Les Creux. This afternoon, at Petit Port, were 2 juvenile Caspian Gulls , 3 Yellow-legged Gulls , 17 Lesser Black-backed Gulls , 2 Common Sandpipers , 12 Ringed Plovers , 2 Redshanks , 3 Turnstones , a Whimbrel , 34 Curlews and 7 Little Egrets and in St Ouen's Bay were a further juvenile Caspian Gull , 6 Yellow-legged Gulls, 75 Lesser Black-backed Gulls and 40 Great Black-backed Gulls . An anting party over Red Houses later this afternoon involved a mixed flock of 30 Mediterranean Gulls and Black-headed Gulls . On Mount Bingham early this afternoon were 4 Spotted Flycatchers and a Willow Warbler, while in Vallee des Vaux, a mixed flock of 80+ birds visited a garden there, and included Long-tailed Tits , both Blue and Great Tits , Blackcaps , Chiffchaffs , Willow Warblers and 2 Short-toed treecreepers . Evening update: At Petit Port this evening were 11 juvenile Caspian Gulls , a Channel Islands record count of this species, while at St Aubin were 13 Redshanks and at Beaumont Marsh , a Whinchat . 6 Grey Herons flew past Beauport this evening, also a Willow Warbler was present there. 24.08.2026 Migrants passing through the Island at the moment include this Whinchat blending in with the grass colours at a very windy Noirmont today MD and...... A very windy day with the easterly wind touching gale force near to showers, but still warm at 24c. Early morning at Corbiere saw 17 Manx Shearwaters , 2 Balearic Shearwaters, 91 Gannets , 20 Shags , 9 Cormorants , 5 Little Egrets , 2 Common Sandpipers , a Common Gull , 18 Mediterranean Gulls , 17 Black-headed Gulls , 56 Lesser Black-backed Gulls and 24 Great Black-backed Gulls passing in two hours. In St Ouen's Bay were 8 House Martins , 25 Swallows , 2 Wheatears , 1 adult and 7 juvenile White Wagtails , 2 Yellow Wagtails and 5 Meadow Pipits and at St Ouen's Pond were a Pochard , 2 Shovelers , 10 Tufted Ducks , 3 Grey Herons , 2 Green Sandpipers , 36 Black-headed Gulls . At Noirmont were a Whinchat , 3 Wheatears , 2 Dartford Warblers , a Firecrest and a Short-toed Treecreeper and at Beauport were another 3 Wheatears . A Long-eared Owl was seen on Mont Fallu in St Peter. In St Aubin's Bay were 200 Black-headed Gulls , c300 Herring Gulls and 58 Sandwich Terns at at Sandybrook were 20 Swallows and 5 House Martins feeding low over trees. On Mount Bingham in St Helier were 3 Spotted Flycatchers and a Redstart and another Spotted Flycatcher was in a garden on Mont Les Vaux in St Brelade. A further 2 Wheatears were on Grouville Common and a Snipe was at Grouville Marsh. At Petit Port this afternoon were 60 Mediterranean Gulls , 12 Curlews , 9 Lesser Black-backed Gulls, 6 Sandwich Terns and a Yellow-legged Gull and at Grands Vaux reservoir were 2 Kingfishers and a Common Sandpiper . .......Good numbers of Wheatears , with this one pictured at Kempt Tower yesterday, with thanks to Jo Bramley for the image. A selection of migrants, seen at or passing Noirmont this morning included 7 Swifts , 2 Sand Martins , 42 Swallows , 37 Yellow Wagtails , 6 Tree Pipits , 5 Common Redstarts , at least 16 Wheatears , 2 Whinchats , a Stonechat , a Willow Warbler , 2 Whitethroats , a Grey Heron , 2 Whimbrels and 52 Gannets , also a Sparrowhawk , a Kestrel , 4 Buzzards and a Dartford Warbler . A good list of birds seen and some ringed, at St Ouen's Pond this morning included 500 Swallows , 5 Sand Martins , 18 Yellow Wagtails , a Spotted Flycatcher , 2 Whinchats , 2 Stonechats , 5 Wheatears , 4 Sedge Warblers , 20 Reed Warblers , 15 Willow Warblers , 15 Chiffchaffs , 3 Teal , a Little Grebe , 5 Grey Herons , 4 Marsh Harriers , a Sparrowhawk and 70 Starlings . Flying over were a Green Sandpiper , 2 Common Sandpipers , a Greenshank , a Redshank , a Ringed Plover , a Snipe , 2 Ravens and 2 Choughs . 3 Wheatears were at Kempt Tower. A Greenshank was seen flying over Beauport. In Grouville Bay were a Bar-tailed Godwit , 100 Ringed Plovers , 3 Dunlin , 8 Sanderlings and a mighty 780 Sandwich Terns . 5 Wheatears were on Grouville Common. Back to yesterday evening when, at St Ouen's Pond were 500 Swallows , 5 Sand Martins , 18 Yellow Wagtails into a roost, 3 Sedge Warblers , a Reed Warbler , 3 Marsh Harriers , a Sparrowhawk and a Kestrel . A Barn Owl was seen at Quetivel Mill.
