02.11.2026 Another great picture, this time a Fieldfare in Robin Bay, with thanks to Romano for the image RDC
A weak cold front moved over the Island at first light, leaving us in a fresh northeasterly wind, and opening the floodgates for Woodpigeons and, to a lesser extent, Stock Doves and thrushes.
The Woodpigeon count at Noirmont, mainly in a three hour period mid-morning, was 81,780, a day record count, or more likely undercount, also 1,302 Stock Doves, with more buried in the vast flocks. Good numbers of Woodpigeons were also reported Island wide, notably 3,500 at Greve d'Azette and smaller numbers elsewhere. Other species passing Noirmont included 3 Lapwings, 70 Fieldfares, 22 Redwings, 14 Blackbirds, 12 Song Thrushes, 2 Mistle Thrushes, 429 Starlings, 6 Pied Wagtails, 32 Meadow Pipits, a Redpoll, 286 Chaffinches, 97 Linnets, 39 Goldfinches, a Brambling, 3 Stonechats, a Firecrest, a Chiffchaff, a Grey Heron, 2 Cormorants, 30 Brent Geese and raptors there included a Peregrine, a Sparrowhawk, and 3 Buzzards.
Victoria Tower's migrant list involved 1,228 Redwings, 136 Fieldfares, 15 Blackbirds, 13 Song Thrushes, 11 Lapwings, a Woodcock, 368 Woodpigeons, 81 Stock Doves, 182 Chaffinches, 5 Bramblings, 93 Siskins, 9 Greenfinches, 3 Linnets, 3 Pied Wagtails, 16 Meadow Pipits and 23 Lesser Black-backed Gulls. Seen from a garden in Vallee des Vaux were 320 Woodpigeons, 25 Stock Doves, 30 Redwings, 6 Song Thrushes, 3 Siskins, a Grey Heron, and on the ground, 6 Firecrests and 3 Goldcrests. Another 200+ Woodpigeons flew East over St Martin's Church.
On St Ouen's Pond were 84 Teal, 2 Grey Herons, 3 Snipe and 2 Marsh Harriers ( plus 300+ Woodpigeons over), and in the Sandpits were a Gadwall and 26 Pochard. On St Ouen's Beach were 30 Sanderlings and at Petit Port were 8 Mediterranean Gulls, 5 Black-headed Gulls, 4 Great Black-backed Gulls, 16 Curlews, 16 Turnstones and 215 Oystercatchers. A visit to Pont Marquet found 2 Firecrests, 2 Goldcrests, 2 Blackcaps and a Chiffchaff with 460 Woodpigeons seen flying over.
At the Gunsite in St Aubin's Bay were 315 Brent Geese, including 55 pale-bellied Brent Geese and at St Aubin's Harbour were 24 Redshanks.
