06.08.2026 Stonechats at the Wetland Centre today MD A cloudy morning with a few light showers gave way to a fine afternoon in a cool northwest wind The Scrape is now pretty much dry, but on St Ouen's Pond were 25 Tufted Ducks , 5 Teal , 72 Black-headed Gulls , 2 Little Grebes, and 8 Grey Herons. Around the fringes were 2 Stonechats and 2 Buzzards, one a pale-phase individual. In St Ouen's Bay were 7 Yellow-legged Gulls, 175 Lesser Black- backed Gulls, 105 Great Black-backed Gulls , 10 Mediterranean Gulls, a Grey Heron at La Saline, 4 Grey Herons arriving at La Pulente and at Le Pulec, 2 Peregrines , 8 Curlews , 7 Little Egrets and 10 Lesser Black-backed Gulls. Around Kempt Tower were 50 Starlings , 2 Willow Warblers , a Blackcap , several Reed Warblers and 16 Linnets . Another Peregrine was seen at Petit Becquet on the northwest coast. In the first two hours of daylight, passing Corbiere were a Manx Shearwater, 17 Gannets , 7 Cormorants , 47 Mediterranean Gulls , 15 Black-headed Gulls , 16 Lesser Black-backed Gulls and 32 Great Black-backed Gulls , with a female Marsh Harrier also seen there. In Petit Port Bay on the rising tide were 32 Mediterranean Gulls , 2 Whimbrels , 19 Curlews and 9 Little Egrets . 55 Swallows passed Noirmont and 3 Whitethroats were also present there and at Beauport Common were 12 Swallows and 2 Buzzards . On the east coast at La Rocque Point were 8 Ringed Plovers , 7 Mediterranean Gulls and 31 Sandwich Terns .

05.08.2026 A juvenile Sandwich Tern at Petit Port MD A cloudy morning, but clearing to a fine afternoon, but feeling cooler (22c) in a fresh west-northwest wind. A few waders were on the move past Corbiere this morning, headed by a Pectoral Sandpiper which flew over, calling. Also passing were 4 Whimbrels , 6 Curlews , 24 Ringed Plovers and a Turnstone , plus the usual Oystercatchers . Also seen were 21 Manx Shearwaters , a Guillemot , a Fulmar , 14 Gannets , 5 Cormorants , 87 Lesser Black-backed Gulls , 78 Mediterranean Gulls , 49 Black-headed Gulls , 25 Great Black-backed Gulls and 4 Sandwich Terns . Also there, were 2 Choughs and a Raven . At Petit Port were 74 Mediterranean Gulls , 2 Sandwich Terns and 5 Curlews . At the Scrape was a Snipe and in the Sandpits were a Common Sandpiper and a Greenshank , with 11 Redshanks roosting at St Aubin. A Wheatear was on Beauport Common, with another having been seen yesterday evening on the north side of St Ouen's Pond. At Grouville Marsh were 15 Reed Warblers, 8 Cetti's Warblers, a Willow Warbler , a Water Rail and a juvenile Marsh Harrier, while at Grands Vaux were a Grey Heron and a Willow Warbler . On Grouville Common were 5 Cirl Buntings . Seen at La Rocque Point this morning, were 3 Greenshanks , 70 Sandwich Terns , 30 Ringed Plovers , 4 Little Egrets , a Grey Heron , 234 Black-headed Gulls , 6 Mediterranean Gulls , a Gannet , 14 Oystercatchers , 8 Curlews , 3 Swallows and 3 Linnets . Several Choughs were in stubble fields near the Steam Museum. In St Ouen's Bay this evening were a juvenile Caspian Gull, 3 Yellow-legged Gulls , 288 Lesser Black-backed Gulls and 127 Great Black-backed Gulls .

04.08.2026 . This juvenile Dartford Warbler was one of four birds together at Noirmont this morning. MD A cloudier morning than of late, with a few spots of rain on the northwest corner, but clearing to fine this afternoon in a westerly wind. Today's sightings on Les Ecrehous included 100+ Turnstones , 9 Grey Plovers, 5 Ringed Plovers , 10 Little Egrets , 50+ Oystercatchers , 6 Rock Pipits , a Grey Seal, a Red Admiral and a Painted lady . At St Catherine's were 2 Swifts and 28 Swallows . At St Ouen's Pond this morning were a Greenshank briefly, 3 Lapwings , 19 Tufted Ducks , 4 Teal , 4 Shovelers , 82 Black-headed Gulls , 3 Mediterranean Gulls , a Swift , 12 Sand Martins , 4 House Martins, 10 Swallows , and 6 Grey Herons. In the backfields there, were 41 Lesser Black-backed Gulls , 57 Great Black-backed Gulls , and a Kestrel was hunting at the Barge Aground. North of St Ouen's Pond from Dawn were a Barn Owl , 500 Swallows , 30 Sand Martins , 20 House Martins , 35 Sedge Warblers , 40 Reed Warblers , 3 Willow Warblers , a Whitethroat , 5 Swifts , 2 Stonechats , a Sparrowhawk , a Little Grebe , and 2 Marsh Harriers and flying over were a Greenshank , and a Whimbrel . In the Sandpits later morning were a pair of Sand Martins still active, 8 Grey Herons , 4 Little Egrets , 4 Little Grebes , 36 Tufted Ducks , 280 Coot , a Redshank , 3 Marsh Harriers , 5 Oystercatchers and a Mediterranean Gull . Passing Corbiere early on were 24 Manx Shearwaters , 30 Gannets , a Common Scoter and 18 Lesser Black-backed Gulls , while feeding at the patch north of the lighthouse were 64 Mediterranean Gulls and 28 Black-headed Gulls . At Le Pulec on the high tide were 2 Curlews , 18 Lesser Black - backed Gulls, 14 Great Black-backed Gulls , 4 Mediterranean Gulls, 2 Black-headed Gulls and one of the usual Grey Seals . Up at Les Landes were 4 Buzzards , a Marsh Harrier , a Peregrine , 20+ Meadow Pipits , 12 Swallows , 2 alba Wagtails , 4 Stonechats , 3 Greenfinches , 2 Dartford Warblers and 2 Ravens , with a Kestrel at Grosnez. Around St John's Manor this morning was a Barn Owl with another Barn Owl seen at St Ouen's Manor. At the Elms in St Peter's Valley were 2 Green Sandpipers and a Grey Heron, with a probable Cuckoo seen on a fencepost on a drive by sighting. A pair of Bullfinch was at Trinity Parish Hall. Later morning at Noirmont were 40 Swallows sitting on wires, 10 Greenfinches and 4 Dartford Warblers . Gulls galore in St Ouen's Bay this afternoon included 11 Yellow-legged Gulls, 364 Lesser Black-backed Gulls , 338 Great Black-backed Gulls , 36 Mediterranean Gulls and a Common Gull. Yesterday evening north of St Ouen's Pond were 8 Swifts , 20 Reed Warblers , 3 Grey Herons , 6 Little Egrets , a Sparrowhawk and the roost of Sand Martins and Swallows seen again this morning. A Kingfisher was in the St Helier Marina yesterday too.

03.08.2026 A selection of Mediterranean Gulls at Petit Port MD A fine and hot (29c) day in a light northeast wind. A morning vist to Les Ecrehous saw 50+ Common Terns , 4 Sandwich Terns , 13 Little Egrets , a Common Sandpiper , 2 Whimbrels , c100 Ringed Plovers , c100 Turnstones and 6 Grey Plovers . 2 Storm Petrels were sitting in the sea off the lighthouse at Corbiere this morning, but no shearwaters were forthcoming for the first time in weeks, although there are many further out still, but not visible from the land. Other birds passing Corbiere included 49 Gannets , 2 Fulmars , 52 Mediterranean Gulls , 27 Black-headed Gulls , 10 Lesser Black-backed Gulls , a single Sandwich Tern , 16 Great Black-backed Gulls and at least 15 Bottle-nosed Dolphins. In Petit Port Bay on the high tide were 28 Curlews , 2 Whimbrels , a Common Sandpiper and 18 Mediterranean Gulls . Seaborne observations in St Ouen's Bay over the weekend included 2 Risso's Dolphins and 4 Great Skuas , plus large numbers of Balearic Shearwaters . At St Ouen's Pond this morning were 22 Tufted Ducks , 6 Teal , a Pochard , 3 Common Sandpipers , 8 Grey Herons , 2 Little Grebes , 60 Black-headed Gulls , 30+ Mediterranean Gulls , 8 Great Black-backed Gulls , 4 Swifts , 10+ Swallows , 40 Starlings and 7 Reed Warblers. In St Ouens Bay later, were 6 Yellow-legged Gulls, 93 Lesser Black-backed Gulls and 93 Great Black-backed Gulls. 30 Swallows were sitting on the wires at Noirmont. At Victoria Tower this morning were 16 Swallows , 2 House Martins , 7 Jays , 2 Ravens, a juvenile Peregrine , a Great Spotted Woodpecker and a Willow Warbler . At Grands Vaux reservoir were 2 Lesser Black-backed Gulls and a Grey Heron. There have been no reports of the Black Stork so far today, with the last sighting being yesterday, at Flicquet. 02.08.2026 A smart looking juvenile Black-headed Gull at Petit Port today MD A fine morning, with high cloud this afternoon, feeling warm and muggy in a light easterly wind. A Black Stork was seen for the second day this morning, this time over Grouville Hill, from where it returned towards Grouville Bay. North of St Ouen's Pond from early morning were 35 Swifts , 2 Sand Martins , 25 House Martin s, 250 Swallows , 30 Sedge Warblers , 40 Reed Warblers , a Whitethroat , 5 Willow Warblers , 40 Starlings , 13 Tufted Ducks , 33 Black-headed Gulls , a Peregrine , 2 Ravens , 5 Buzzards including a pale-phase bird, and 3 Marsh Harriers . Corbiere counts this morning included 57 Manx Shearwaters, 2 Balearic Shearwaters , a Fulmar , 54 Gannets , 21 Shags , 10 Cormorants , 65 Mediterranean Gulls , 22 Black-headed Gulls , 12 Lesser Black-backed Gulls , 50 Great Black-backed Gulls , 52 Sandwich Terns , 3 Curlews , a Whimbrel and 6 Bottle-nosed Dolphins . In Petit Port Bay were 77 Mediterranean Gulls , 2 Black-headed Gulls , 35 Curlews , and a Whimbrel . 3 Sandwich Terns were seen in flight over La Rocco Tower. 70 Swifts were over Mont les Vaux in St Aubin and a juvenile Marsh Harrier was at Noirmont. Near the Millennium Cross at St John were 12 Ravens , a Buzzard and a Kestrel . 2 Firecrests were in a garden in Vallee des Vaux. This evening in Grouville Bay were 13 Sanderlings , 6 Dunlin , 16 Ringed Plovers , a Whimbrel , a Common Gull and 8 Mediterranean Gulls . A late record from two days ago, was a Kingfisher at Bel Croute.

01.08.2026 Three Curlews arriving at Corbiere from the south, this morning MD A mainly fine day, but feeling cooler in a moderate northwest wind. A Black Stork , seen high over Grouville Marsh early this afternoon, was a good welcome to the new month. It has not been relocated so far, but will be the fourth record for Jersey, if accepted. At St Ouen's Pond were 13 Tufted Ducks , 5 Grey Herons , at least 9 Swifts , 10 House Martins, 10+ Swallows and 2 Peregrines , while around the Scrape, which is now almost devoid of water, were a Willow Warbler , 2 Reed Warblers , a Water Rail calling from the South Canal and a family of Pheasants , walking across what was, until very recently, a Pond! In St Ouen's Bay were 3 Yellow-legged Gulls , 82 Great Black-backed Gulls , 29 Lesser Black-backed Gulls and 19 Black - headed Gulls , and 12 Little Egrets were at Le Pulec. Off Corbiere early on were 24 Balearic Shearwaters , 4 Manx Shearwaters , 7 Fulmars , 34 Gannets , a Guillemot , 33 Lesser Black-backed Gulls , 29 Mediterranean Gulls , 28 Black-headed Gulls , 3 Curlews , 3 Sanderlings and a Turnstone . In Petit Port Bay were 88 Mediterranean Gulls , 4 Black - headed Gulls , 31 Curlews , 2 Whimbrels , 73 Oystercatchers , 2 Lesser Black-backed Gulls and 2 Little Egrets . At La Rocque this morning were 48 Sandwich Terns , 4 Mediterranean Gulls , 3 Common Sandpipers , 2 Turnstones , 118 Oystercatchers and a Willow Warbler . Seen at Seymour Tower were 42 Great Black-backed Gulls and a Kingfisher was on Grands Vaux reservoir. At St Aubin were 41 Mediterranean Gulls and 29 Black-headed Gulls , while at Beauport were a Dartford Warbler , 3 Greenfinches and 2 Jackdaws , and at Gorselands were another 2 Dartford Warblers .

31.07.2026 Not so many years ago, a flock of Mediterranean Gulls like this one at Petit Port today would have been unthinkable. How the times have changed for this beautiful bird. MD A mainly fine day in a moderate north-westerly wind ( 23c). continue to teature strongly across the Island and today in St Ouen's Bay were a second year Caspian Gull , a Yellow-legged Gull, 70 Lesser Black-backed Gulls , 85 Great Black-backed Gulls , 55 Mediterranean Gulls as well as 3 Ringed Plovers , 2 Dunlin and 4 Sanderlings . Roosting Petit Port Bay over the high tide this morning were 96 Mediterranean Gulls , 6 Black-headed Gulls , 21 Curlews , a Whimbrel , 125 Oystercatchers , a Sandwich Tern and a juvenile Kestrel . More gulls seen on the East coast today included 56 Mediterranean Gulls at Le Hurel. At Grands Vaux reservoir were a Yellow-legged Gull, 3 Lesser Black-backed Gulls , 18 recently fledged Herring Gulls and a Grey Heron . Seen passing Corbiere early morning were 43 Balearic Shearwaters , 89 Manx Shearwaters , 62 Gannets , 3 Fulmars , 23 Mediterranean Gulls , 3 Black - headed Gulls , 31 Lesser Black-backed Gulls , 29 Great Black-backed Gulls , 26 Sandwich Terns , a Sanderling and a Peregrine . Elsewhere, a Hobby was at Grouville Marsh and at Noirmont were a Wheatear , 4 Whitethroats , 5 Willow Warblers , 2 Chiffchaffs , 2 Stonechats , 12 House Sparrows and 10 passing Swallows . At Beaumont Marsh were a Snipe and a Clouded Yellow butterfly. Evening update : On the Scrape this evening were 2 Little Ringed Plovers , while at La Rocque were 24 Sandwich Terns , 80 Black-headed Gulls and 157 Oystercatchers , with a Wheatear at the Point. 30.07.2026 Reed Warbler in the tamarisks on the Scrape path yesterday. MD A change in the weather today saw an overcast morning and a mostly cloudy afternoon, feeling cooler in a west-northwest wind. Seen on the north side of St Ouen's Pond this morning were 25 Sand Martins , 20 House Martins , 200 Swallows , 4 Swifts , a Shoveler , a Pochard , 13 Tufted Ducks , 2 Grey Herons , 32 Black-headed Gulls , 35 Starlings , 3 Stonechats , 3 Willow Warblers , 25 Sedge Warblers, 40 Reed Warblers including recently fledged juveniles,a young Peregrine , a Sparrowhawk , 3 Marsh Harriers , 3 Ravens and 2 Choughs . Early morning passage past Corbiere included just 7 Balearic Shearwaters , 5 Manx Shearwaters , 54 Gannets , 3 Cormorants , 63 Mediterranean Gulls , 2 Black-headed Gulls , 27 Lesser Black-nacked Gulls , 19 Great Black-backed Gulls , many of them juveniles, 2 Sandwich Terns, a Common Sandpiper , a Turnstone , a Curlew and 2 Ravens , also a Tuna close inshore. In Petit Port Bay were 73 Mediterranean Gulls, 6 Black-headed Gulls , a Lesser Black-backed Gull , 4 Sandwich Terns and 6 Little Egrets . It was also quiet off Le Pulec this morning too. At La Rocque were 300+ Black-headed Gulls , 8 Mediterranean Gulls , 70 Sandwich Terns , 8 Ringed Plovers and at Le Hocq were 2 Grey Herons . At St Aubin were 121 Black-headed Gulls and 4 Mediterranean Gulls . Little was happening at Noirmont, with a Willow Warbler , 2 Dartford Warblers , 3 Lesser Black-backed Gulls and 6 Buzzards seen. A juvenile Peregrine was seen being chased by gulls at Pontac. In St Ouen's Bay this afternoon were 5 Yellow-legged Gulls including three juveniles, 70 Great Black-backed Gulls , 40 Lesser Black-backed Gulls , a Ringed Plover and 43 Mediterranean Gulls . In Vallee des Vaux were 2 Bullfinches and a Willow Warbler . Yesterday evening on the north side of St Ouen's Pond were 6 Swifts , 15 House Martins, 200 Swallows , 30 Sand Martins including one with a UK ring on, a Sedge Warbler , 20 Reed Warblers , a Shoveler , 3 Stonechats , a Willow Warbler , a Sparrowhawk and a Common Sandpiper .

29.07.2026 A juvenile Sandwich Tern arriving on the rocks at Petit Port today MD A near perfect Summer's day at 25c, with clear skies and a light easterly wind. Migrants are starting to show up now, albeit only a few at a time so far. On Les Ecrehous today was a Melodious Warbler and also seen there were 3 Grey Plovers , 97 Turnstones , 100 Oystercatchers , a Whimbrel , 100+ Common Terns , 10 Sandwich Terns , a Little Egret and 6 Rock Pipits . A Crossbill was seen at Victoria Tower, 2 Swifts were over St Catherine's and Noirmont's contribution was the first autumn Wheatear , 4 Sand Martins and 12 Swallows . On Queen's Valley reservoir were a Greenshank and a Common Sandpiper and at Rozel was a Whimbrel . At La Rocque was a Roseate Tern resting on rocks there, 100 Sandwich Terns , 50 Mediterranean Gulls , a Turnstone , 5 Common Sandpipers , a Whimbrel and a second year Caspian Gull . A quiet morning in the light winds at Corbiere, saw 66 Balearic Shearwaters , 8 Manx Shearwaters , 50 Gannets , 13 Cormorants , 2 Grey Herons heading West, 4 Little Egrets, 10 Sandwich Terns , 2 Mediterranean Gulls , 4 Black-headed Gulls and 10 Lesser Black-backed Gulls in two hours, while in Petit Port Bay were 33 Curlews , 3 Whimbrels , 19 Mediterranean Gulls , 6 Black-headed Gulls, 4 Sandwich Terns and 7 Little Egrets and a few Tuna were feeding west of the Lighthouse. At Le Pulec were a first winter Caspian Gull, 57 Curlews , 9 Little Egrets and a Stonechat . The Scrape at St Ouen's Pond is now nearly dry, unsurprisingly, but on it were an Oystercatchers , 3 Lapwings , a Dunlin , a Common Sandpiper , a Grey Heron , and good numbers of Reed Warblers and a Blackcap . A Skylark was still singing there and in the tamarisks on the path to the hide were a Sedge Warbler , 3 Reed Warblers , a Willow Warbler , 4 Chiffchaffs and 4 Goldfinches , with a first winter Yellow-legged Gull and 4 Lesser Black-backed Gulls roosting in the field there. On St Ouen's Beach were 2 Yellow-legged Gulls , 41 Lesser Black-backed Gulls , 102 Great Black-backed Gulls and 15 Mediterranean Gulls . A Peregrine was reported from the north of St Peter. At Ouaisne were a Common Sandpiper , a Sedge Warbler and a Reed Warbler. At the Gunsite in St Aubin's Bay were 22 Mediterranean Gulls , 145 Black-headed Gulls and 2 Lesser Black-backed Gulls and over Elizabeth Castle were 5 Swifts . At Grands Vaux reservoir and pond were 2 Common Sandpipers , a Grey Heron and 3 Lesser Black-backed Gulls and yesterday evening, a Black-crowned Night Heron was reported from the same location.
