
11.08.2024 A flight of young Cormorants arriving at Corbiere this morning MD
A fine day, becoming very warm at 28c in an easterly wind.
Birds were on the move past Corbiere this morning, after a couple of quiet days. A morning long watch there saw 514 Balearic Shearwaters, 89 Manx Shearwaters, 4 Common Scoters, 13 Shelduck, 5 Teal, 3 Mallards, 177 Gannets, a Fulmar, 18 Cormorants, 16 Mediterranean Gulls, 29 Black-headed Gulls, 21 Lesser Black-backed Gulls, 4 Sandwich Terns, 10 Sanderlings, a Dunlin, 6 Ringed Plovers, 4 Turnstones and 14 distant wader sp. Also flying over were 2 Peregrines, 3 Swifts and 13 Swallows and a Grey Seal was again present near the causeway.
In Petit Port Bay were 49 Mediterrranean Gulls, 5 Black-headed Gulls, 25 Curlews, a Whimbrel, 6 Little Egrets and a single Lesser Black-backed Gull.
Seen at Noirmont were 3 Swifts, an overflying Green Sandpiper, a Peregrine, 2 Stonechats and 2 Dartford Warblers.
Elsewhere, a Kingfisher was in the Zoo and a Swallowtail butterfly flew across the wicket at the Farmer's Cricket Ground in St Martin.
