20.08.2024 Sparrowhawk passing Corbiere yesterday MD
A poor morning for weather with overcast conditions and periods of heavy rain, becoming fine this afternoon in an increasing west-northwest wind.
Seawatching was challenging this morning, but as the weather improved, a steady trickle of birds included 84 Manx Shearwaters, 78 Balearic Shearwaters, 84 Gannets, 71 Lesser Black-backed Gulls, 53 Great Black-backed Gulls, 15 Mediterranean Gulls, 2 Black-headed Gulls, 19 Sandwich Terns, a Whimbrel, 26 Curlews and a Grey Heron. A Wheatear was near the radio tower there. In Petit Port were 68 Mediterranean Gulls, 7 Black-headed Gulls, 27 Lesser Black-backed Gulls, 34 Great Black-backed Gulls, 17 Curlews and 6 Little Egrets.
Big news at St Ouen's Pond is that the Scrape has been cut ahead of volunteer work there this week. Post-disturbance today were a Green Sandpiper, a Grey Heron and 2 Swallows. A Wheatear was seen at Noirmont.
16 Grey Herons flew over La Sente and 2 Cattle Egrets were at Grouville Marsh.
4 House Martin nests were still active at Francheville Farm, also one Swallows nest and another 4 House Martin nest were active at La Fevevre Farm.
