This morning's tallies from St Ouen's Pond included a Barn Owl , 900 Swallows , 15 Sand Martins , 20 House Martins , 16 Yellow Wagtails, a Hobby , a Peregrine , 9 Wheatears , 18 Sedge Warblers , 25 Reed Warblers , 15 Willow Warblers , 3 Blackcaps , 6 Chiffchaffs , 3 Teal , a Shoveler , 2 Greenshanks , a Redshank , a Green Sandpiper , 2 Common Sandpipers , a Dunlin , 40 Goldfinches , 17 Grey Herons , a Sparrowhawk , 4 Marsh Harriers , 3 of them juveniles. At the Scrape were a Stonechat , a Willow Warbler , 2 Linnets , a Common Sandpiper and a Marsh Harrier . In the Sandpits were 2 Barnacle Geese , a Great Crested Grebe , 9 Little Grebes , 3 Common Sandpipers , 2 Grey Herons , 33 Tufted Ducks , 14 Linnets , 4 White Wagtails , hundreds of Coots , 6 Great Black-backed Gulls and a Lesser Black-backed Gull . On Mont Matthieu were a Barn Owl , 3 Shovelers and a Willow Warbler , with another Barn Owl seen at St John's Manor. Also in St Ouen's Bay were 5 Caspian Gulls , 9 Yellow-legged Gulls , 260 Lesser Black-backed Gulls , 105 Great Black-backed Gulls and 45 Mediterranean Gulls , while at Petit Port were 10 Caspian Gulls , 4 Yellow-legged Gulls, 18 Lesser Black-backed Gulls , 56 Herring Gulls , 47 Mediterranean Gulls , 2 Common Sandpipers and 34 Curlews . Many of yesterday's migrants at Noirmont had departed by this morning. Counts included 3 Wheatears , 2 Whinchats , 3 Redstarts , a Spotted Flycatcher , 3 Stonechats , 2 Willow Warblers , 4 Whitethroats , 4 Dartford Warblers , 2 Tree Pipits , 4 Yellow Wagtails , 37 Swallows , 21 House Martins , a male Marsh Harrier , a Peregrine and 2 Ravens . A flock of 70 Herring Gulls which landed in the car park at first light included a Caspian Gull and a Yellow-legged Gull, while offshore were 11 Sandwich Terns, 4 Mediterranean Gulls, 10 Lesser Black-backed Gulls and 5 Gannets . At Grands Vaux reservoir were 2 Common Sandpipers , a Green Sandpiper , 2 Kingfishers , a Grey Heron and 12 Long-tailed Tits . A Wheatear was seen at La Rocque. On Beauport Common were a Wheatear , a Whitethroat , 2 juvenile Stonechats and a Great Spotted Woodpecker and over Red Houses this afternoon were a Swift , a Sparrowhawk and 2 House Martins . Back to yesterday , and a visit to Les Ecrehous saw a Whimbrel , 34 Ringed Plovers , 50 Turnstones , a Dunlin , 5 Common Sandpipers , a Willow Warbler , a Peregrine with a juvenile Common Tern, also 2 Grey Seals . Yesterday evening, at St Ouen's Pond, were 900 Swallows , 15 Sand Martins , 16 Yellow Wagtails , a Snipe , 4 Common Sandpipers and 4 Marsh Harriers .

A warm and muggy day ( 25c) in a light easterly wind, with nearby showers mainly avoiding the Island. More migrants are appearing on a daily basis at the moment. At St Ouen's Pond from Dawn this morning, were 2 Grasshopper Warblers , 8 Sedge Warblers , 15 Reed Warblers , 5 Chiffchaffs , 2 Blackcaps , a Whitethroat , 2 Stonechats , 15 Sand Martins , 90 Swallows , 15 Yellow Wagtails out of a roost, 45 Goldfinches , 20 Linnets , 40 Starlings , a Great Spotted Woodpecker, 4 Grey Herons , 3 Teal , 11 Tufted Ducks , 11 Wheatears , 3 Marsh Harriers , a Sparrowhawk , 3 Buzzards and 20 House Martins . Flying over were a Wood Sandpiper , a Green Sandpiper , 2 Common Sandpipers , a Redshank , a Greenshank , 2 Ringed Plovers , a Snipe and 3 Choughs . On Mont Matthieu were 5 Whinchats and 2 Willow Warblers . At Noirmont were 11 Wheatears , 6 Whinchats , 5 Redstarts , 3 Spotted Flycatchers , 15 Whitethroats , 2 Willow Warblers , 3 Dartford Warblers , a Stonechat , a Chiffchaff , a Blackcap , and a Great Spotted Woodpecker . Elsewhere, a Hobby was seen in Trinity, 2 Wheatears , 4 Stonechats , a Whinchat , a Redstart and a Whitethroat were at Beauport and 3 Spotted Flycatchers were at Les Creux. This afternoon, at Petit Port, were 2 juvenile Caspian Gulls , 3 Yellow-legged Gulls , 17 Lesser Black-backed Gulls , 2 Common Sandpipers , 12 Ringed Plovers , 2 Redshanks , 3 Turnstones , a Whimbrel , 34 Curlews and 7 Little Egrets and in St Ouen's Bay were a further juvenile Caspian Gull , 6 Yellow-legged Gulls, 75 Lesser Black-backed Gulls and 40 Great Black-backed Gulls . An anting party over Red Houses later this afternoon involved a mixed flock of 30 Mediterranean Gulls and Black-headed Gulls . On Mount Bingham early this afternoon were 4 Spotted Flycatchers and a Willow Warbler, while in Vallee des Vaux, a mixed flock of 80+ birds visited a garden there, and included Long-tailed Tits , both Blue and Great Tits , Blackcaps , Chiffchaffs , Willow Warblers and 2 Short-toed treecreepers . Evening update: At Petit Port this evening were 11 juvenile Caspian Gulls , a Channel Islands record count of this species, while at St Aubin were 13 Redshanks and at Beaumont Marsh , a Whinchat . 6 Grey Herons flew past Beauport this evening, also a Willow Warbler was present there. 24.08.2026 Migrants passing through the Island at the moment include this Whinchat blending in with the grass colours at a very windy Noirmont today MD and...... A very windy day with the easterly wind touching gale force near to showers, but still warm at 24c. Early morning at Corbiere saw 17 Manx Shearwaters , 2 Balearic Shearwaters, 91 Gannets , 20 Shags , 9 Cormorants , 5 Little Egrets , 2 Common Sandpipers , a Common Gull , 18 Mediterranean Gulls , 17 Black-headed Gulls , 56 Lesser Black-backed Gulls and 24 Great Black-backed Gulls passing in two hours. In St Ouen's Bay were 8 House Martins , 25 Swallows , 2 Wheatears , 1 adult and 7 juvenile White Wagtails , 2 Yellow Wagtails and 5 Meadow Pipits and at St Ouen's Pond were a Pochard , 2 Shovelers , 10 Tufted Ducks , 3 Grey Herons , 2 Green Sandpipers , 36 Black-headed Gulls . At Noirmont were a Whinchat , 3 Wheatears , 2 Dartford Warblers , a Firecrest and a Short-toed Treecreeper and at Beauport were another 3 Wheatears . A Long-eared Owl was seen on Mont Fallu in St Peter. In St Aubin's Bay were 200 Black-headed Gulls , c300 Herring Gulls and 58 Sandwich Terns at at Sandybrook were 20 Swallows and 5 House Martins feeding low over trees. On Mount Bingham in St Helier were 3 Spotted Flycatchers and a Redstart and another Spotted Flycatcher was in a garden on Mont Les Vaux in St Brelade. A further 2 Wheatears were on Grouville Common and a Snipe was at Grouville Marsh. A selection of migrants, seen at or passing Noirmont this morning included 7 Swifts , 2 Sand Martins , 42 Swallows , 37 Yellow Wagtails , 6 Tree Pipits , 5 Common Redstarts , at least 16 Wheatears , 2 Whinchats , a Stonechat , a Willow Warbler , 2 Whitethroats , a Grey Heron , 2 Whimbrels and 52 Gannets , also a Sparrowhawk , a Kestrel , 4 Buzzards and a Dartford Warbler . A good list of birds seen and some ringed, at St Ouen's Pond this morning included 500 Swallows , 5 Sand Martins , 18 Yellow Wagtails , a Spotted Flycatcher , 2 Whinchats , 2 Stonechats , 5 Wheatears , 4 Sedge Warblers , 20 Reed Warblers , 15 Willow Warblers , 15 Chiffchaffs , 3 Teal , a Little Grebe , 5 Grey Herons , 4 Marsh Harriers , a Sparrowhawk and 70 Starlings . A Greenshank was seen flying over Beauport. In Grouville Bay were a Bar-tailed Godwit , 100 Ringed Plovers , 3 Dunlin , 8 Sanderlings and a mighty 780 Sandwich Terns . 5 Wheatears were on Grouville Common. Back to yesterday evening when, at St Ouen's Pond were 500 Swallows , 5 Sand Martins , 18 Yellow Wagtails into a roost, 3 Sedge Warblers , a Reed Warbler , 3 Marsh Harriers , a Sparrowhawk and a Kestrel . A Barn Owl was seen at Quetivel Mill.

22.08.2026 An adult Sandwich Tern arriving at Petit Port MD A fair to cloudy day in a light easterly wind (21c) Today saw the first morning of significant Autumn migration at Noirmont. Seen through the morning there were An Ortolan Bunting , 2 Tree Pipits , 23 Yellow Wagtails , 68 Swallows , 16 Sand Martins , a Grey Heron and a juvenile Marsh Harrier , all flying over, while arriving, or on the ground, were 18 Wheatears , 3 Common Redstarts, 2 Stonechats , 2 Willow Warblers , 2 Whitethroats and 2 Ravens . Offshore there, were 4 Balearic Shearwaters , a Storm Petrel , 44 Gannets , 5 Sandwich Terns , 5 Mediterranean Gulls and 13 Lesser Black-backed Gulls . In Grouville Bay were 200+ Sandwich Terns , with another 34 seen at La Rocque Point. 3 Cattle Egrets flew over Grouville Marsh. On Grands Vaux reservoir were a Kingfisher , a Common Sandpiper , a Grey Heron and a Bullfinch , with a White Wagtail seen at Grainville. At Havre des Pas were 7 Sandwich Terns and 12 Black-headed Gulls . On Beauport Common were 3 Stonechats , a Wheatear , a Willow Warbler and a Blackcap , with a Dartford Warbler at Gorselands. A family of 6 Ravens has been seen at Sorel over the last two days. At St Aubin were 27 Sandwich Terns , a Curlew and a Little Egret .

21.08.2026 Cormorants arriving at Corbiere this morning MD A cloudy morning with scattered showers was replaced by a fair afternoon in a north-west wind. A visit to Les Minquiers this morning saw 4 Balearic Shearwaters , a Gannet , 50 Shags , 50 Black-backed Gulls , 13 Oystercatchers , 150 Turnstones , a Dunlin , 500 Sandwich Terns and 4 Willow Warblers . At St Ouen's Pond from first light were a Black Tern , 3 Common Sandpipers , a Redshank , 3 Grey Herons , 3 Teal , 22 Tufted Ducks , 24 Black-headed Gulls , a Sparrowhawk , 3 Marsh Harriers , a Barn Owl , 60 Swallows , 3 Sand Martins , 15 House Martins , 35 Sedge Warblers , including two UK ringed birds, 50 Reed Warblers , 12 Willow Warblers , 15 Chiffchaffs , a Blackcap , 4 Yellow Wagtails, a Tree Pipit and 2 Choughs . In St Ouen's Bay this afternoon were 77 Great Black-backed Gulls , 58 Lesser Black-backed Gulls and a Ringed Plover . At Petit Port later, were a juvenile Kittiwake , 60 Mediterranean Gulls , 21 Curlews , 6 Lesser Black-backed Gulls , 4 Sandwich Terns and 6 Little Egrets . On Les Landes were 2 alba Wagtails , 18 Meadow Pipits , 30 Swallows , 28 Linnets , 3 Wheatears , 7 Stonechats , a Peregrine , a Kestrel , a Marsh Harrier , and 2 Buzzards and at Le Pulec were 22 Cormorants , 5 Shags , 57 Oystercatchers , 10 Little Egrets , and at Les Laveurs were 3 Buzzards . MD A line of heavy showers crossed the Island this morning, with the skies clearing to a fair afternoon, winds from the west-southwest and strong. There was a lot of activity off of Corbiere this morning in the blustery conditions and seen through the morning were 240 Balearic Shearwaters, 177 Manx Shearwaters , 2 Fulmars , 37 Gannets , 5 Cormorants , 25 Sandwich Terns , a Yellow-legged Gull , 385 Lesser Black-backed Gulls, 593 Herring Gulls , 50 Great Black-backed Gulls , 31 Mediterranean Gulls, 6 Black-headed Gulls, a Curlew , 10 Ravens , a juvenile Peregrine and a Willow Warbler , also 5 Bottle-nosed Dolphins . In Petit Port Bay were 25 Mediterranean Gulls , 13 Great Black-backed Gulls , 2 Lesser Black-backed Gulls and 16 Curlews . In St Ouen's Bay this afternoon were 3 Yellow-legged Gulls , 85 Lesser Black-backed Gulls , 70 Great Black-backed Gulls , 35 Mediterranean Gulls , 11 Sandwich Terns and 9 Sanderlings . On St Ouen's Pond were one Black Tern still and 5 Teal , with a Wheatear near the Scrape, and in the Sandpits were 7 Common Sandpipers . Yesterday evening , at St Ouen's Pond, were the Black Tern , 3 Reed Warblers , 600 Swallows , 10 Sand Martins and 2 Yellow Wagtails , also a Sparrowhawk which took one of the wagtails . 16.08.2026. A Black Tern pictured west of St Ouen's Bay today by John Ovenden A day of varying amounts of cloud, still very warm at 26c in a northerly wind. Seabirds continue to be off the West coast in good numbers, although less gulls were on the move than yesterday. A significant raft of birds to the west of L'Etacq this morning included c 5000 gulls and 1,500 shearwaters . Passing Corbiere northwards this morning were 501 Balearic Shearwaters, 40 Manx Shearwaters , 4 Common Scoters , 69 Gannets , a Fulmar , 141 Sandwich Terns , 2 Common Terns , a Common Gull, a Kittiwake , 49 Mediterranean Gulls , 29 Black-headed Gull, 68 Lesser Black-backed Gulls , 42 Great Black-backed Gulls and 3 Ringed Plovers . A Black Tern ( above) was photographed to the West of St Ouen's Bay. In Petit Port Bay this morning were 2 Whimbrels , 35 Curlews , 61 Mediterranean Gulls , 4 Black-headed Gulls and 7 Sandwich Terns . A stirring of migrants at Noirmont included a Cuckoo , a Common Redstart , 4 Tree Pipits , 2 Spotted Flycatchers , 15 Willow Warblers, 3 Firecrests including a juvenile, 3 Whinchats , 6 Wheatears , 8 Whitethroats and 70 Swallows , also a juvenile Dartford Warbler . This morning, at St Ouen's Pond, were 300 Swallows out of a roost, 12 Willow Warblers , 20 Sedge Warblers , 30 Reed Warblers , 3 Swifts , 20 House Martins , 4 Grey Herons , a Peregrine , a male Sparrowhawk , with overflying birds including a Black-tailed Godwit , a Whimbrel and a Common Sandpiper . In St Ouen's Bay later were 9 Yellow-legged Gulls, 170 Lesser Black-backed Gulls , 85 Great Black-backed Gulls , 55 Mediterranean Gulls , a Common Gull and 3 Ringed Plovers . Another 17 Ringed Plovers were seen at Seymour, in Grouville Bay. A Grey Heron and 4 Moorhens were seen on a pond in Rue de la Garenne, Trinity. In St Aubin's Bay, 3 Sandwich Terns , 3 Great Black-backed Gulls, a Lesser Black-backed Gull , and 170 Herring Gulls including 27 juveniles, and 11 Redshanks were at St Aubin.

19.08.2026 Sandwich Terns at Petit Port MD Finally, a morning of rain as a cold front passed over the Island, becoming fair this afternoon in a fresh westerly wind. The Black Tern remained at St Ouen's Pond for a third day and 3 Black-tailed Godwits flew low across the Pond, but were not seen again. Also on the Pond were 5 Teal , 16 Tufted Ducks , 2 Grey Herons , a Little Grebe , 38 Black-headed Gulls, 95 Starlings , 100+ Swallows , 15 House Martins , a Sand Martin , and 2 juvenile Stonechats , with 20 Great Black-backed Gulls and 15 Lesser Black-backed Gulls in the backfields. On the dry Scrape ( despite the rain) were 5 White Wagtails and 2 Willow Warblers . In the Sandpits were 7 Sand Martins, including one nest still active, 4 House Martins , 5 Common Sandpipers , 34 Tufted Ducks , 21 Little Grebes , a Great Crested Grebe , 200 Coot , 11 Grey Herons , a juvenile Marsh Harrier , 3 White Wagtails , a Cetti's Warbler and a Raven . At Le Pulec were 32 Curlews , a juvenile Peregrine and 2 juvenile Stonechats . At the Grands Vaux reservoir mud pond were a Common Sandpiper and a Bullfinch .
