A change in the weather today saw an overcast morning and a mostly cloudy afternoon, feeling cooler in a west-northwest wind.
Seen on the north side of St Ouen's Pond this morning were 25 Sand Martins, 20 House Martins, 200 Swallows, 4 Swifts, a Shoveler, a Pochard, 13 Tufted Ducks, 2 Grey Herons, 32 Black-headed Gulls, 35 Starlings, 3 Stonechats, 3 Willow Warblers, 25 Sedge Warblers, 40 Reed Warblers including recently fledged juveniles,a young Peregrine, a Sparrowhawk, 3 Marsh Harriers, 3 Ravens and 2 Choughs.
Early morning passage past Corbiere included just 7 Balearic Shearwaters, 5 Manx Shearwaters, 54 Gannets, 3 Cormorants, 63 Mediterranean Gulls, 2 Black-headed Gulls, 27 Lesser Black-nacked Gulls, 19 Great Black-backed Gulls, many of them juveniles, 2 Sandwich Terns, a Common Sandpiper, a Turnstone, a Curlew and 2 Ravens, also a Tuna close inshore. In Petit Port Bay were 73 Mediterranean Gulls, 6 Black-headed Gulls, a Lesser Black-backed Gull, 4 Sandwich Terns and 6 Little Egrets. It was also quiet off Le Pulec this morning too.
At La Rocque were 300+ Black-headed Gulls, 8 Mediterranean Gulls, 70 Sandwich Terns, 8 Ringed Plovers and at Le Hocq were 2 Grey Herons. At St Aubin were 121 Black-headed Gulls and 4 Mediterranean Gulls. Little was happening at Noirmont, with a Willow Warbler, 2 Dartford Warblers, 3 Lesser Black-backed Gulls and 6 Buzzards seen. A juvenile Peregrine was seen being chased by gulls at Pontac.
In St Ouen's Bay this afternoon were 5 Yellow-legged Gulls including three juveniles, 70 Great Black-backed Gulls, 40 Lesser Black-backed Gulls, a Ringed Plover and 43 Mediterranean Gulls. In Vallee des Vaux were 2 Bullfinches and a Willow Warbler.
Yesterday evening on the north side of St Ouen's Pond were 6 Swifts, 15 House Martins, 200 Swallows, 30 Sand Martins including one with a UK ring on, a Sedge Warbler, 20 Reed Warblers, a Shoveler, 3 Stonechats, a Willow Warbler, a Sparrowhawk and a Common Sandpiper.
