A mostly dry day with varying amounts of cloud and a brisk south-southwest wind, with a little rain arriving later this afternoon ahead of a forecast big blow tomorrow
Another good showing of seabirds at Corbiere this morning included at least 662 Manx Shearwaters, a Common Scoter, 2 Shelduck, 2 Brent Geese, 63 Guillemots, 8 Razorbills, 7 Fulmars, 50 Gannets, 172 Kittiwakes, 2 Black-headed Gulls, 2 Lesser Black-backed Gulls, 9 Sandwich Terns, 4 Common Terns, the first Whimbrel of the Spring, which was, unfortunately, taken by a Peregrine as it arrived. Also seen were the first Ring Ouzel, by the Highlands Hotel, 3 Wheatears, 4 White Wagtails, 2 Swallows, 4 Ravens and a Sparrowhawk. Offshore were 4 Bottle-nosed Dolphins and a Grey Seal. 2 Sandwich Terns were in St Brelade's Bay.
Seen at La Sente through the day were 76 Brent Geese, 2 Shelduck, 22 Cattle Egrets, 10 Little Egrets, 3 Black-headed Gulls, another Little Ringed Plover, 2 Greenshanks, 5 White Wagtails a Pied Wagtail and a Swallow. In Grouville Bay were 122 Brent Geese, with another 14 Brent Geese at Havre des Pas.
At St Ouen's Pond were 29 Shovelers, 9 Tufted Duck and 8 Swallows. At Kempt Tower were 6 Tufted Duck and at Mont Matthieu was a pair of Little Grebe and 2 Tufted Duck.
In Beaumont Marsh were 56 dark-bellied Brent Geese and 28 pale-bellied Brent Geese.
Elsewhere, a Grey Heron was at Handois reservoir, at Grouville Marsh were 2 Water Rails and 3 singing Cetti's Warblers, at Grands Vaux were 7 Tufted Duck and in Vallee des Vaux, still 2 Siskins, 4 Bullfinches and 3 Blackcaps were present.
Most of the "alba" wagtails being seen now are White Wagtails, some of which will stay to breed in Jersey. Our wintering Pied Wagtails, like the one above have mostly left for their breeding areas in the UK. This bird was pictured in St Ouen's Bay last month MD
