22.08.2024 The first Wryneck of the Autumn passage was seen and photographed by Frank le Quesne at Les Landes today, with the date just one day later than last year's first, which (was on Les Ecrehous). Many thanks to Frank for this image.
A dry day with a fresh and gusty south-southwest wind.
Less birds were seen passing Corbiere this morning than yesterday, but still included good numbers, involving 132 Manx Shearwaters, 73 Balearic Shearwaters, 2 skua sp, probably Arctic Skuas, 3 Fulmars, 69 Gannets, 17 Cormorants, 51 Lesser Black-backed Gulls, 41 Great Black-backed Gulls, 36 Mediterranean Gulls, 3 Black-headed Gulls, 23 Sandwich Terns, 39 Curlews, 8 Dunlin, 3 Turnstones, 2 Swallows, a Peregrine and also a pod of at least 10 Bottle-nosed Dolphins. 3 Wheatears were on the headland too. Birds returning into Petit Port as the 11.5 metre tide receded, included 48 Mediterranean Gulls, 2 Sandwich Terns, a Grey Heron and a good selection of Oystercatchers, Great and Lesser Black-backed Gulls and Herring Gulls, also 4 Little Egrets.
At Le Hocq were 27 Little Egrets roosting in trees there, 137 Oystercatchers and 5 Curlews.
