24.08.2024 Thanks go to John Ovenden for today's image of the Wryneck at Les Landes JO
A very wet morning with an active cold front which included a severe squall line, passing across the Island. Dry this afternoon, but windy from the West
In the dry, this afternoon, the Wryneck was relocated at Les Landes, near the shooting mound west of the racecourse. Offshore, 13 Gannets were feeding above 3 Harbour Porpoises. 14 Little Egrets were at Le Pulec
Attempts at seawatching in awful conditions were only partly successful. Seen fro Corbiere were 7 Common Scoter, 16 Manx Shearwaters, 2 Balearic Shearwaters, 2 Fulmars, 59 Gannets, 21 Mediterranean Gulls, 3 Black-headed Gulls, 37 Lesser Black-backed Gulls, 3 Whimbrels, 6 Ringed Plovers and 3 Turnstones. A Peregrine was sitting on the headland near the radio tower.
On the newly cut Scrape were a juvenile Shelduck, 6 Teal, 5 Shovelers, a Snipe and a Reed Warbler, while flying over were 12 Lesser Black-backed Gulls, 3 Mediterranean Gulls, 8 Black-headed Gulls and c30 Swallows.
Below: A short video of the juvenile Shelduck on the Scrape. with thanks to Jo Bramley
