25.12.2024  A traditional Robin for Christmas Day   MD

Another day of hill fog, clearing to a degree this afternoon, feeling mild in a light westerly wind


Seen from the Wetland Centre through the day were 11 Brent Geese, a Pochard, 2 Tufted Duck, 9 Shovelers, a Grey Heron, a Snipe, 7 Cormorants, a Chough, and a Stonechat, while seen from the Scrape were a Bittern, 34 Lapwings, a Snipe, a Grey Heron, 2 Teal, a Water Rail, a Reed Bunting, a Kingfisher, a Chough and a Chiffchaff.


By Sands Slip in St Ouen's Bay were 44 Ringed Plovers, 22 Dunlin and 12 Sanderlings and near La Saline were a Red-breasted Merganser, 32 Brent Geese, a Great Crested Grebe, 6 Curlews, 3 Pied Wagtails and 3 Choughs.


240 Brent Geese were at La Haule and a Brambling was a garden visitor at Beauport again.


At La Sente were 3 Snipe, 6 Cattle Egrets, 120 Brent Geese, 350 Black-headed Gulls, a Common Gull, 10 Redshanks and 31 Pied Wagtails. On Grouville Common were 8 Redwings, a Singing Song Thrush and a Raven and at Rue Cotils were 19 Cattle Egrets. Another 8 Cattle Egrets wer at Rue du Hocq while in Grouville Bay were 500 Dunlin, 150 Sanderlings and 60 Grey Plovers.


5 Fieldfares were at an Orchard in St Mary and in Vallee des Vaux were 4 Bullfinches, a Firecrest, 25 Redwings, a Grey Wagtail, a Short-toed Treecreeper, and overhead there at Dusk were 3 Fieldfares, 6 Ravens and 8 Woodcocks.


This Dunlin, pictured by Romano this week at La Rocque, was ringed near Gdansk in Poland in August 2012 and, up to this week's sighting, had not been seen since!   RDC
