26.12.2024  Common Gulls and Dunlin in Grouville Bay   MD

Persistent hill fog was present for a third day feeling cold at 8c in a light Easterly wind.


Visibility was better at sea level this morning and seen from Corbiere were 220 Guillemots, 182 Razorbills, 8 Brent Geese, 3 Shovelers, 22 Cormorants, 49 Shags, 18 Gannets, 4 Kittiwakes, 8 Mediterranean Gulls, 4 Lesser Black-backed Gulls, 46 Great Black-backed Gulls, 2 Grey Herons, a Turnstone being pursued by a Peregrine ( it got away!) and 2 Harbour Porpoises moving East.


A Merlin flew across the Scrape in St Ouen's Bay while on Mont Matthieu were 2 Stonechats, 100 Chaffinches  and a Marsh Harrier.


In Grouville Bay were 197 Grey Plovers, a Bar-tailed Godwit, 310 Sanderlings, 4 Greenshanks, 25 Redshanks, 28 Curlews, 100 Turnstones, 85 Oystercatchers, a Mediterranean Gull and 470 Black-headed Gulls. At La Sente were 13 Redshanks, a Curlew, 18 Grey Herons and 30 Pied Wagtails. 25 Cattle Egrets  were on Rue Cotils and 12 Coot were at Grouville Marsh.


16 Red-throated Divers passed La Coupe, but little else.


The usual suspects were on display in Vallee des Vaux with a Blackcap, a Firecrest, a Goldcrest, 3 Redwings, 4 Bullfinches, 9 Long-tailed Tits, a Song Thrush in song again, a Sparrowhawk, a Buzzard and 4 Ravens.
