A fair day in a brisk west-southwest wind.
On a quiet day generally, for birds, a Short-eared Owl seen hunting at Le Catillon was a good find. Nearby, in Grouville Marsh were a family of 4 Reed Warblers, 20 Blackcaps, 12 Chiffchaffs, 3 Willow Warblers, 5 Cetti's Warblers, 6 Bullfinches, including 2 juveniles, a Kingfisher, 3 Cattle Egrets and a Sparrowhawk. In Queen's Valley were 5 Greenshanks and at La Sente were 13 Grey Herons.
In La Rocque Harbour were 7 Grey Plovers, 30+ Sandwich Terns, 20 Black-headed Gulls, 5 Little Egrets and a Rock Pipit. A Grey Heron and 2 Kingfishers were at Grands Vaux reservoir and another Kingfisher has now returned to Bel Croute at St Aubin.
A few seabirds passing Corbiere this morning included 4 Balearic Shearwaters, 37 Mediterranean Gulls, 5 Black-headed Gulls, 10 Lesser Black-backed Gulls, 13 Sandwich Terns, 5 Fulmars, 14 Gannets with 2 White Wagtails on the headland. At Petit Port were 21 Mediterranean Gulls, 2 Sandwich Terns, 24 Curlews and 107 Oystercatchers.
Odds and ends elsewhere included a Wheatear, a Peregrine dicing with a Kestrel and 6 Gannets at Grosnez, 16 Little Grebes in the Sandpits and 150 Swallows plus 2 Sand Martins over St Ouen's Pond. 3 Willow Warblers and 5+ Chiffchaffs were at Noirmont.
